Friday Tea: Book talks, Walkathons, and Canadian citizenship
It’s a wild and windy Friday the 13th in Milwaukee. I’m working remotely today, which means that I get to curl up under a blanket and let some sourdough levain ferment while I send my emails.
A few good things that are happening this week:
CFCtoo is hosting The Myth of Good Christian Parenting event next Thursday, March 19 with authors Marissa Franks Burt and Kelsey Kramer McGinnis. It’s online, it’s free, and I’d love for any of you to join us! You can register here.
Marissa ghost-edited a few of the CFCtoo blog series back in 2022 (Broken Arrows and The Quiverfull Families Next Door), so I’m delighted that she gets to join me for a discussion that’s specifically geared towards religious cult and high-control communities.
Mezzo Allies is holding its annual walkathon fundraiser for survivors of family-controlled trafficking in May. I’m on Mezzo’s board, and it’s encouraging to see the crucial training that Mezzo has been able to provide at the state and national levels in 2025. More of that, please!
If you haven’t heard, Canada has dramatically changed their rules on citizenship by descent. Like me, you may already be a Canadian citizen, as long as you can gather the documentation to prove it. Don’t delay, though—two months into the new rules and the processing time is already 9-12 months, according to an immigration lawyer I chatted with last week.
